"With membership topping 21,150 and a record 14,400 candidates taking its professional qualifications, APM has this morning announced another record year for the 12 months ending March 2014.

Pre-audited accounts indicate that like-for-like revenues have grown by £300,000 in the last year to £7.4 million with growth across all areas of the charity; the highest revenue in the association’s history.

http://www.apm.org.uk/news/apm-announces-record-breaking-achievementsAPM chairman Steve Wake said: ”These draft results are a demonstration of the success we are having in taking our message of professionalism out to the wider project management community.”

“Our success is based on collaboration, one of the core values which drive the portfolio supporting the APM Board’s strategy. We reflect and promote the most successful professional practice available by working closely with academia, corporate organisations and individuals, volunteers and other domain experts. This ensures that we meet the needs of our members and the wider project management community.”

The figures reveal that nearly £600,000 has been invested in projects to support the realisation of Strategy 2020 – the first phase in realising APM’s ambitious vision of a world in which all projects succeed.

“I am a great believer in putting your money where your mouth is,” said Steve. “Our financial performance this year means the APM Board have been able to set aside a budget of £1.5million for projects and programmes in 2014/15.”

2013/14 has seen the launch of APM’s first online qualification for the Introductory Certificate. Syllabuses for the Introductory Certificate and APMP qualifications have been refreshed in line with the APM Body of Knowledge 6th edition and will be launched under a new identity at the end of April 2014. Meanwhile, APM’s flagship qualifications have continued to perform well with APMP – The APM Project Management Qualification seeing a 26% growth in candidates during the year.

Knowledge development is also at the heart of APM activities with investment into a review of the association’s flagship publication Project and the start of a significant research project investigating the conditions for project success. The association has also extended its web-enabled APM Body of Knowledge+ meaning APM now have 7 years of Project magazine articles online.

The APM Awards and the APM Conference both saw significant growth. The 2013 conference held at King’s Place in London under the title Adapt! attracted leading psychologist Professor Richard Wiseman and 'Undercover Economist' Tim Harford to the platform alongside speakers from the Halley VI arctic research station, High Speed 2 (HS2) and the National Audit Office.

The APM Awards, hosted in November 2013, saw a fresh roster of winners with the likes of BBC, B&Q and DHL Supply Chain representing new sectors and new names to be added to the list of winners.

APM continues to play an important role in the global project management community, especially through the many roles held by APM volunteers and staff within the International Project Management Association (IPMA). Successes included the September 2013 launch of a collaboration with the Finnish project management association, PMAF, based around APM’s FIVE Dimensions of Professionalism.

Collaboration has also been at the heart of APM’s activities in the UK. The association became the first ever professional body to achieve the Investors in Volunteers accreditation, a reflection of the huge contribution of time, expertise and commitment made by APM’s loyal volunteers.

APM’s thriving network of Specific Interest Groups benefitted from the launch of a new SIG – Enabling Change. Additions to APM’s knowledge resources included a highly topical report on the growing influence of Gamification, created by members of APM’s Thames Valley Branch. Successful collaboration with other professional bodies included a second well-received joint RICS-APM Conference, this year examining the differences between ‘management’ and ‘leadership’.

Corporate support of APM and its vision grew significantly in 2013/14, reaching a peak of 547 corporate members. APM’s Corporate Members Leadership Group provided a highly effective sounding board for APM strategy as well as a networking group for project leaders of such high-profile organisations as Siemens, BBC and Lloyds Banking Group.

The web has been APM’s key channel for the growing awareness of project professionalism, with the APM website enjoying around 530,000 unique users visiting almost 4 million pages during the year. In addition, APM’s LinkedIn community topped 34,500 and its Twitter account now attracts 8,200 followers, making it amongst the most influential project management brands on the web. A new collaboration with PM Channel was launched in September and a review of APM’s digital future was undertaken during the year. Influence continues to grow in the national print media also with coverage in the Times, Telegraph and City AM during 2013/14.

With APM’s Net Promoter Score – the percentage of customers who would recommend APM to friends and colleagues – recently achieving the level of “outstanding”, the association continues to strive for the highest quality in all that it does.

Overall, the results demonstrate the increasingly significant levels of support that APM enjoys as lead professional body for project management in the UK for its campaign to raise the awareness and adoption of project management professionalism in the UK and beyond."
